Three horses, all Registered NY Breds

All three of our 2018 horses are in our One Time Pay Partnerships, where you pay to join and never have any out of pocket expenses in the future (other than your Owner’s license). Pay once, that’s it. Go to our Finances page for a full explanation.

Being NY Breds, our horses can take full advantage of the lucrative NY Breeding and Racing Program. Both of our yearling horses are available for inspection during the Saratoga meet at Irish Hill Century Farm [Rick Burke, 518-527-2701]. Our 2 year old is currently in training at William Du Pont’s former training track in Montpelier Station, Virginia.

Sire: Freud

Freud is one of the leading and most versatile sires in the U.S. His offspring have won over 115 Stakes Races, approximately half on the dirt and half on the turf, at distances of 5 1/2 furlongs to 1 1/2 miles.

Among Freud's top horses racing in 2018 are:

SHARP AZTECA- Winner of the Grade 1 Cigar Mile, 2nd in the 2017 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, and earner of $2.4 million.
FOURSTAR CROOK - Winner of the Grade II New York Stakes, the Grade II Hillsborough Stakes, second in the Grade 1 Jenney Wiley Stakes, and earner of $1.2 million
OUR BRAINTRUST - undefeated (2 for 2) winner of the $150,000 Tremont Stakes, a leading 2 year old race.

Freud is based in NY state, which allows his offspring to race in the NY Stallion Series of Stakes races. These are open only to offspring of NY based stallions. With Freud being a 4 time leading sire in NY, his offspring have a genetic advantage when racing in these races. In 2017, Freud was the Leading Sire in NY in these 7 categories:

1. General Sire
2. Turf Sire
3. Stakes Wins
4. Graded Stakes Winners
5. Graded Stakes Wins
6. Repeat Winners
7. Lifetime Average Earnings Index

On more than one occasion, Freud has been the sire of the top 3 finishers in Stakes races while siring the first 4 finishes in the 2015 Statue of Liberty Stakes - a Freud Superfecta!

One of the most important measurements used to determine the success of a stallion is comparing his Average Earning Index (AEI) to the Comparable Index (CI) of the mares he is bred to. A stallion having a higher AEI than the mares he is bred to means the stallion's offspring are outperforming the expectations of the book of mares he was bred to. The higher the AEI relative to the CI the better. At the close of 2017, Freud had a lifetime AEI of 1.56 and a CI of 1.25. This is a 25% higher AEI than the CI, one of the highest improvements of all U.S. stallions.

Here is a table comparing AEI to CI of the top ten (living) Stallions for 2017:

As you can see, only one stallion equals Freud's ability to improve the mares' offspring.

The more than 115 Stakes victories by Freud's colts and fillies are not due to the strength of the mares he was bred to but due to the strength of the genes Freud passes on to his offspring.

Bloodlines Racing Partnerships is happy to have the genetic profile and proven success of Freud in our program.

Dam: Grape Cottage

The dam (mother) of our Freud filly is Grape Cottage. Grape Cottage is a daughter of the great international sire Street Cry. We think he is such a special stallion that we have a page devoted just to him. Please read about him on our Street Cry page.

As a 2 year old, Grape Cottage won a MSW race in her second start, then was beaten by 3 1/4 lengths in the $150,000 Jessamine Stakes at Keeneland in her third start, then beaten by 1 1/4 lengths in the Caressing Handicap in her fourth start. While never winning a stakes race, Grape Cottage demonstrated class as a racehorse.

Grape Cottage's dam is Mirta, a daughter of the influential sire, Theatrical. Mirta produced 5 foals to race, all of them winners, including Tatuto, who was 5 times Stakes Placed (three of them in Graded Stakes) in South America.

Mirta's dam is the G1 winning Argentina race mare, Miss Carlotita, who foaled 2 U.S. Stakes Winners - Sudana (course record setter at Gulfstream Park), and Dowty ($961,311 and 3rd in the Breeders Cup Classic).

We are glad to have the genes of Grape Cottage in our program and excited to race this Freud/Grape Cottage filly.
